Q: What did you do prior to becoming a recruiter?
A: I Sold medical
supplies for American Hospital Supply. Prior to that, consumer products sales.
Q: What year (xx, xx, xxxx) did you become
a recruiter?
A: I started with SC
Minneapolis in March 1977.
Q: Why did you become a recruiter?
A. I wanted a
job where I did not have to travel, wouldn't have to relocate, and could
earn income based on my own efforts.
Q: If you went out on your own as a recruiter what
prompted that decision?
A: I wanted more
contol over my income and direction of my business.
Q: Who were your role models and are
you mentoring others now?
A: Not sure I
had any role models at SC Minneapolis. I was the youngest guy there at the
time by two years. I listened to what the other AE's in my ofice were doing.
Picked up on what worked for them and used it for what worked for my personality.
That first year or so was tough for me. I decided that they were going to
have to burn the place down to get me out of there. I glued my butt to the
chair and made up my mind to be successful.
My best role model for this business
was Bob Feaster. Bob was a field operations trainer for MRI. He was an AE
at SC Glenrock NJ. before joining MRI Corporate. He came to my office in
Florida for three days in 1980. He was a football coach in the 60's and
trained like a football coach. He had my partner and I puking in the wastebasket
for three days.(He pointed out to us... over and over...that the problems
we were having with our office had more to do with us than our AE's.) We
couldn't wait to get this guy back on the plane! The result was that he really
got our office straightened out, told us things we really did not want to
hear, but really set us in the right direction. Bob became one of my best
friends over the years. He was always available to talk over deals and often
gave me thoughts on how to do things that I might have never thought of on
my own. Bob passed away about 18 months ago. I really miss him.
Bob Reinitz and I talk over deals when either one of us is stuck or just
needs a different perspective. It really helps!
Q: If you were asked what your job title is,
how would you respond?
A:
Recruiter
Q: Is your primary job function sales
driven or recruiting driven?
A: 50/50 Sales
and Recruiting driven.
Q: Why did you join USRC and what prompts you
to continue to be a member?
A:
I was one of the original members. It just sort of evolved out of all those lunches we had together as a group! I've really enjoyed the camaraderie over the years. I like the meetings, the members, and the opportunities that we get through USRC.
